Why you NEED a Liquid Lipstick

We all want bold lips for a night out.  We don't however want it sliding, bleeding, or coming off.  We are asking for too much.  NOT ANYMORE!

I picked up one of Kat Von D's Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick last summer in the shade Lolita (dusty rose color) and I fell in love with the lasting power of these lipsticks.  What I loved the most was that they are as MATTE as they come. The packaging in the past was faulty I think.  It would sometimes pour out when I would put the doe foot applicator back in.  They have repackaged their new lipsticks into a longer, fuller (I mean Oz.) cuter packaging.  I have not experienced any spillage with this new one.  As for the formula Kat has said she changed the formula to be a lot easier on the lips. Bachelorette is a new color and although it does last long I find myself applying it just once more,  maybe with Lolita I don't mind because it's close to my lip color but Bachelorette is AMAZING! My lips look dry in the picture but they don't feel that way when I have it on.  I forget it's even there.

If you have been meaning to buy a lasting lipstick in any shade, I would advise you to check out these at SEPHORA.  They are pricey ($18) BUT they are worth it! I have had Lolita for over a year and I still have more than half the tube! (it could be also because I have small lips but whatever!) I think these would be a great investment because the color payoff is great!

Bachelorette is also available in lipstick form and I was debating on buying it in that format rather than a liquid (mostly because of the packaging) but I chose the Liquid version because of the staying power I had with Lolita in the past.  When I swatched the lipstick format it was a bit more muted not as bold as this one.
feel free to check it out! This collection of Kat Von D's Studded Lipsticks have a whole range of really cool colors! I'm going to be purchasing the Lipstick in the shade "POE"! (It's a blue lipstick!)

Sephora is the only store you'll find Kat Von D products.  On the website it says they go for $19 but I bought mine at Sephora (North Ave) for $18.  I think it would be better to go try out the colors for yourself and save yourself the dollar (lol).

Must Have Brush!

STIPPLING BRUSH. All I have to say.

Okay, no I have more to say...
Using full coverage foundation with a flat top brush or a dense brush could cause your foundation to look cacky. Applying blush for the first time could be scary but using a stippling brush allows you to have less product on your brush and always have the perfect flush look.  A lot of Finishing powder could also cause your makeup to cake up but using a stippling brush gives you the perfect finish without moving anything around. I have not had any hairs fall from this brush and I love the finish I get with it.

This brush really has a lot of purposes
and I use it for a light foundation application, especially now that the weather feels like its getting hotter.
The brush I have is from Eco-Tools.  I purchased it a while ago at Walgreens, I forgot how much it was but I'm pretty sure you could still find it.  Also look on Ebay and Amazon for deals!

Stay tuned for more reviews about Ecotools brushes!

The Right Foundation

Choosing the right shade and formula for your foundation can be a lot of hard work and could seem like a guessing game but it doesn't have to, keep reading to make finding your right shade a bit easier.

Some foundations have a pink undertone, while others have a yellow undertone. To detect which undertone you have I would suggest to be by a window. Florescent light can make your face seen one color while outside you can seen another. Now, see if you can pin point your undertone. If you notice golden or yellow tones you are warm toned.  If you notice pinks or blues you are a cool toned. Sometimes you can't distinguished, if so you might be of neutral toned.

I say go with a shade that matches close to your chest.  My face and neck are a tad bit darker than my body, so if I were to apply my foundation based on my face only you would be able to tell I'm wearing foundation.

When I first began wearing foundation I noticed there was something off. In the mirror I looked fine but when I was out and about something didn't seem right.  I looked darker but that wasn't the problem, I looked closely and my face was pink and my chest was yellowish. It was then that I realized that I was of yellow tone. The L'oreal true match foundation is one that varies in shades and undertones, so it makes it much easier to find your perfect shade.  It also provides coverage that is build-able without feeling like you have a lot of makeup on.

TIP:
If your foundation is to light not a problem, dust your bronzer around your face this will fix that problem right up.

TIP:
If your foundation is too dark, use light concealer in the areas where you would "highlight" (under the eyes, chin, forehead, bridge of the noise, under your jaw ) or just leave them bare and just apply concealer leaving the other areas as a contour, which will bring out the hollows of your cheeks and frame your forehead and jawline.

TIP:
Always bring your foundation down your neck and make sure to blend around your hairline. This way your body and face are one shade.

Summer Makeup Tips!

During hot weather we want to look our best but once we start sweating the look isn't cute. If you're sweating or naturally have oily skin here are some tips to help your foundation and makeup last longer.

TIP: Moisturize! Helps keep your skin hydrated.  If you have dry skin, I'm talking to you especially.  Your foundation won't dry up and give you those patches no one wants! (If you have oil to combo skin, also moisturize but use a light lotion)
I Recommed:. Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion

TIP: Use a primer! It helps even out your face to allow your foundation to sit on a balanced surface. It also helps with dry or oily skin, so your foundation will last longer.  Some primers give you a matte look while others give you that healthy glow, for summer matte works best helps you look less shiny.
I Recommend: Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer

TIP: If you have oily skin, set your foundation with a powder, dab it on the areas you are more likely to see oil, I would suggest to leave your dry areas alone, it could cause it to look cakey.  If you have dry skin and you're going to be out, lightly powder your face to reduce sweat from peeking through.

TIP: [THIS IS OPTIONAL] you could also set your makeup with a setting spray so that everything is "locked" in place. These products range from affordable to higher end. I have been using the ELF Mistand Setting spray and it has been working fairly well.

TIP:  although we can’t keep ourselves from sweating, keep your powder in your purse, bag, car, etc.  We’re going to end up whipping the sweat off so you need to touch up your makeup again. I have seen a lot of people use Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

TIP:  On an everyday basis, we don’t need a full face of makeup.  Find the areas you need coverage in, like under your eyes, chin, and/or forehead.  Or maybe you need to conceal redness, or pimples. Use concealer on only those areas and set with powder! THAT’S IT! You can also use a tinted moisturizer, don’t forget to set it.
I Recommend: L'Oreal True Match concealer

Hope you all find these tips helpful! The best tip is to go out and have fun with your own bare face! This way you won't have to worry about anything slipping and sliding! Enjoy your summer!

xoxo

Revlon NEARLY NAKED REVIEW

I figured we start with the basics, I bought the Revlon Nearly Naked a year ago in the shade 160 Fresh Beige. I used it during Chicago's hot summer and brutal winter. It's lightweight but you could build it up to a medium coverage. The finish is dewy, so you'll have a healthy glow, blends easily. Smell wise it just has a faint foundation smell, nothing too bad. It does have an SPF of 20 so great for summer time but this means that it will reflect light, for example flash photography but I haven't had this problem.  I don't have much to cover up but I do think that this product does a great job at evening out my skin tone (I am wearing it in the "About this Blogger" post). I think the packaging is sleek and great for travel, does not come with a pump but I don't really mind it, just make sure to start off with a little and then build on it.

OIL CONTROL: I have oil to combination skin which means that at the center of my forehead, noes and chin I become oily whereas on my cheeks I'm dry.  The foundation was great during the summer but I did have to set it with powder or blot when it got too hot outside, mostly on my nose. During the winter I didn't have a problem with it, it was light enough to make my dry spot feel moisturized.

LONGEVITY: I would wear this foundation for a course of 10 hours or so (less on other days) So I would be indoors, outdoors, walking, running, talking, eating and everything else, surprisingly the coverage was still there (I did use a primer and powder to set) of course it was not as nice as it was when I first applied it but for 10 hours, I think it worked great. Sometimes I would come home and see my nose and chin a slight different color where the foundation wore off but that was because I would blot with a tissue and touch my chin a lot.

Over all, I really enjoyed the use of this foundation. They also have a great selection for undertones but they only have 16 shades to choose from which it not bad but could be better.  I would recommend it to everyone and I have to say it's a product I'm tempted to repurchase.

You can tell I enjoyed this product.

About the Blogger

My name is Jennifer, one of the reasons why I decided to create this blog was to encourage people to have fun with makeup.  Makeup is one of those things that is made to enhance your features, building your confidence.  I have grown to love makeup, it's one of those things where I have total control over.  I decide what lip color to wear and I decided what look I wanna go for every morning.  I'm here to fill you in on the products that you should try and the products that take a little more time to love.  Being able to applying makeup didn't happen to me over night (and I'm still not the best at it) but practice make perfect.  So have fun, and don't give up! The fun is just about to start!
